Chimeras are nice, but cheap AV can be beautiful too ^^
Many of my AV died last summer, both chimeras and non-chimeras.
On the one hand I'd like to replace those that I like a lot, but on the other hand I'm trying hard to reduce the total number...

Sorry to hear that many of your AVs were dead last summer! Have you done any precaution for this summer yet?
According to my AV philosophy, there are only like or dislike not chimeras or non-chimeras.
Any of my collected AVs would be my beloved ones , I would try my best to take care of them no matter in nutrition, hair cut, spacious room etc….Certainly it is not an easy balancing act especially for any family persons.
I've been planting AV for four and a half years now, and last summer was by far the worst one.
High temperature coupling with poor growing conditions and lack of proper care led to high mortality rate...
I think I'm pretty convinced of your planting philosophy ^^, its much better to have a few happy/healthy plants then to have many ugly looking ones ^^
Oh! As to the precautions this summer: I have finally managed to change all the pots and soils last month.
Hopefully, the new roots and leafs will mean that they stand a much better chance of survival this summer
