Frennie, It does not have an prominent smell (May be it's too young to have any aromatic scent). Through research and verifications, I figured that this is Tulsi or Holy basil. Tulsi is a sacred plant in Hindi Traditional religion as far as I know. Tulsi is found to have a number of health benefits, which you can easily google on the net.

Yes this plant belongs to the basil family (hence English translation Holy basil), but it does not taste or smell like ordinary basils (such as thai basil or italian sweet basil). Having realized that the seeds were given by an indian, I can conclude that it is Tulsi.
