Hello Goodman ~ Very attractive lightning photos ~~

What equipment are you using right now ??

Thank you for all your kind words on the lightning photos.  
On that day, I was enjoying myself watching the lightning and was sitting in front of the window with all the room light switched off.  It took me awhile to find a correct setting in the camera which shows good background and the lightning itself.  I wanted to take such photos for years.  Not easy in HK unless you live very high up with very good view.

My camera is a Nikon D300.

Yours is the 3rd D300 in hkplants ~ 四少 and I are using the same model like you do ~

Those exif info will be hidden whenever your photos are uploaded directly to hkplants and no way we can see the photo info. What a shame ~

What lens are you carrying for trip right now ?? Some photos were shot with reasonably wide lens .. Is it a 18-200 ?? I think it is a bit difficult to carry more than 2 lens for trip ...

What F value and exposure time did you used to shot the lightning that night ??

I am only an amateur (and part-time) but enjoy enthusiast-level photo taking.  Like the most of you I would say.
Yes, good guess.  I use Nikon 18-200mm lens in Hanoi.  One of the best traveling lens.  Some people say image quality is so so but it is a fun lens to carry around and you never miss a shoot.
For the lightning shoots, I used different settings but mostly was:
18mm, ISO 250, WB=Auto, Shutter speed = 20s, f/3.5

Other lenses I have are:
Nikon 14-24mm F/2.8
Nikon 24-70mm F/2.8

Main reasons I use D300 and Nikon lenses are:
1) Within my budget
2) They are well built.  Due to work and travel, sometimes I go to deserts (hot and dusty), high and cold places with rain and snow (high humidity).
3) I like taking pictures of sports and cars.  Speed is important.

You are definitely NOT an amateur, I bet ~ You have 2 out of the 3 大三元 勒 ~~

Those you are having are my targets. However, I seldom travel and don't have much time hanging around practising photography, I think even though I buy them, they will still sit quietly in my dry cabinet for months, or perhaps years ... Another reason is that range of 24-70 is not convenient for APS-C and I don't think I will upgrade to FF in 2 years time ... Anyway, those are all very good and reputated lens of Nikon ~

No la no la!  Having those lenses does not mean I am a pro.
It took me a long time to save money for them but I see it as good investment.  I can still use those lenses in 10 years time or whenever I upgrade my camera.  Be honest, the D300 is very good and does what I wanted, I do not see the need to upgrade it for awhile.

I totally agree with you, there is no point buying a lens (expensive or not) and leave it in one side.

BTW, I am a very lazy person, so not often use software to amend my photos.  What you see is what you get.
