It may be a result of excessive moisture. I had a similar problem when I first bought thyme from the shop. White worms were found in the soil. Then I figured that the soil was too wet probably because the soil was not of a very well drained type. Hence, I added some sand and then put the plant under the sun to evaporate excessive mositure. After 1 to 2 days, white worms were gone (probably dead).
