浸水葉片--is it normal?

hi,
I've got 2 av leaves from flower friend doris on Feb 3. I put them into water on the same day. However I found they become kind of "rotten" at the end of their stems as shown in the pic. Is it normal? Or is there any special skills that i should apply when immersing them into the water? pls help~~~
btw, after how many days will they start to glow roots?

it seems u guys suggest me that i put the leaves into the soil rather than just water......

cheong, u have sharp eyes! the puple lace leaf (the wavy leaf) was torn when i was bringing it home....i've cut the torn part as well.....hope it helps~~~~

It is perfectly OK to cut up to 1/3 of the upper part of the leaf before putting it into potting materials. Some said that this would stimulate growth. So no worries!

Do you change the water ? i also rotted the leaves in the water.But it takes more than a month.

so...it seems i'm not the only one getting rotten stems....i hope more experts will come here and share their experiences with us

according to the av book i read, we dont have to change the water. we just need to top up the water if it evaporates. what do u guys think?

the writer also said both 浸水 or putting it into the soil are equally good, but he prefers 浸水 because he can see and monitor the growth of the roots under water clearly and he said there is less bacteria in water than in soil. however, from our av friends' experience, putting them into the soil is much better.....

when i check back, the date u gave me the leave is 26/1 (not 3/2...sorry, i made a mistake..), and that photo was taken on 3/2. i'm sure their stems were perfect when u gave them to me (i took a pic on the same day u gave me), so the problem is on my side, and i'd really like to find out the problem, or else i'll never learn....

.....is it the weather? or the way i put them into the water (i heard ppl cut flower under water so i suspect i have to do the same thing for the av leave.....) makes the stem rotten? i still dont know....but at least i know this is not an uncommon problem -- other ppl experience the same problem as i do -- getting rotten leaf stem......

cos' i dont have any spare pots i'm actually keeping them into the water after cutting their rotten part.....i'll try doris' method and hope it works!

For me i have try both methods, soaking in water can see the roots growing..more fun . I change the water once a water, so far so good.
