There are about four varieties of Strelitzia, the most common one is the reginae that a lot of household planted them which is the smallest even it can grow to about 2 meters. this is the one with colourful flower, the other three are augusta(also called alba) grow to about 2 meters, nicolai-can grow up to 2.5 meters and the tallest caudata more than three meters all have white flower. there is also a hybrid one Strelitzia x Kewensis (hybrid between reginae x augusta). I grow mine reginae on ground and is fully established. They are quite free flowering under full sun except in winter, withstand quite cold temperature (minus 2 degree C average), easy to look after. If you do grow in pot make sure they are big enough for the roots to expand, I have seen them flowered in pot at the local nursery, they do like moist media.
