Our premium potting mixtures do contain a range of pine bark and woody pieces, which have all been composted and screened into a range of size matrixes to create a mix which is open to allow water to penetrate and at the same time, holds essential moisture for plant growth. At times, the appearance of the woody materials may not look as appealing as the finer pieces in the mix, especially after watering when some may sit on the mix surface, but the pieces within the potting mix play an important role to allow excellent aeration within the mix. Good aeration within the mix allow strong root growth which in turn creates healthy plants. From our many years of in house and professional growing trials, we have found that when mature plants are removed from the mix, the roots have encased and grown around the woody and bark pieces, which is due to access to good aeration in that area within the mix.
